Inktober no. 2 - followed the “Poison” prompt. Originally I was going to ink some nasty fungi but couldn’t get the idea of a deadly bouquet out my head. These beautiful nasties are all listed as deadly in my @rivercottagehq hedgerow foraging book. Henbane, yew, and hemlock water-dropwort. Well, technically you can eat the yew berry flesh but why you would want to chance it when it surrounds a seed that could put you in the ground I don’t know. 🌿💀🍃🖤

I’m bringing some of these coptic-stitched sketchbooks along to the @townergallery for the @inkpaperandprint fair on 15th October. These ones have me feeling particularly autumnal. 🍃🍁🌿🍂
1.5 years ago I posted on Tumblr looking for an artist who could design a logo and header for @houseplantcentral. I found the wonderful @laurenwilmshurst who ended up killin’ it with her awesome watercolors.
Now that I’m starting another new website I’m hoping this can be done again.
If you’re an artist who would be interested in doing a logo/header in a cute style (think unicorns, pineapples, flamingos) as well as some lettering, please send me an ask, chat message or even an email at aquariadise(a)gmail(dot)com!

I’ve got a bit too much going on this time to help @aquariadise out, so I’m boosting here in case any artist buddies following me might be interested. Mari was a joy to work with for Houseplant Central, and her new project sounds like a lot of fun!
I’m listening to the latest episode of @j.l.perrone ’s ‘On The Ledge’ podcast - so it seemed a fitting time to share these photos of cacti! I got this Astrophytum Capricorne x Superkabuto (what a mouthful!) at the British Cactus and Succulent Society Sussex Zone show. It’s adorable but I swear they’ve been cultivated to hide mealy bug.
There’s also an Astrophytum Myriostigma hybrid and one of my propagated string-of-hearts taking in the sunshine. 🌵☀️
The September update take us across sunset fields and into … The Bluewood!

Kite’s use of colour is nothing less than enchanting. It complements the pace and flow of the storytelling so well.
One of two miniature house plant embroideries I have for sale, this one depicting a delicate but vigorous Muehlenbeckia species. It’s photographed against the plant that inspired it!
The wooden hoop measures just 8.5cm in diameter, making this a truly tiny work of art. The house plant has been stitched with embroidery floss on cotton fabric. The blue and white threads that make the pot were patiently, intricately woven.
I have secured the back of the embroidery with gathered running stitch, and kept it tidy behind a disc of kraft card that I’ve since signed and noted with the plant’s name.
The first person to message me that they want the piece secures it. Payment is through Paypal; I’ll direct message details. Postage (Royal Mail First Class Signed For) and packaging is included in the prices below.

I don’t often reblog things here (I haven’t been using my tumblr much at all of late, let’s be honest!) but I really like Stacey’s work and it often makes me think and want to share my thoughts.
Creating this piece I was inspired by the giddying millions of years it takes resin to fossilize into amber. Trees produce resin for protection. It has antiseptic properties and clots wounds in tree bark from insect predation and other injuries. Insect and plant debris trapped in amber offers ghostly suggestions of Earth’s ancient ecology.
New Zealand Kauri, Agathis australis, is one of two extant tree species producing resin stable enough to endure fossilization. While no Kauri gum has been around long enough to become amber, Kauri are part of the ancient Araucariaceae family. Fossils from its genus, Agathis, date back to the Cretaceous and Jurassic.
I couldn’t let Mermay go by without joining in at least once. She lives in a pond! 🌿💦
